I think the term "reasonable" is a term of legal art. What would your average person say is too long to hold on to an item? What the average person would say is enough time to contact a person.

The two unrepaired amps I got from the repair shop were there for over two years. My friend is closing shop and getting rid of unclaimed items. Anyone would agree that getting someone to pick up an amp for two years is too long. If the guy had wanted the amp, he would have been hounding my friend.

To mitigate any future problems, a repair shop should clearly state on a poster or on a claim check how long they will hold onto an item. My friend does have a poster on his claim checks.
