    Sorry to prolong this, but my curiosity is killing me as to why that white film is on the bottom of the tubes. It just occurred to me that it might even be on the outside of the tubes and have nothing to do with the internals. Mars Amp Repair​, if you still have those tubes accessible, can you tell us if you can wipe off that film, or if it's on the inside of the tube.

      The base of the tube is a plug carrying the pins and the complete inner structure.
      During production this plug and the tubular envelope are fused using glass solder.
      I assume the milky inner (?) surface is the result of a sloppy soldering process.

        Interaction woth / tarnish from a tube shield base? Doesn't aluminum do all kinds of fun stuff? Wonky glass? I've seen glass go cloudy before, though I don't recall the reasons why... I don't think it's anything internal, myself...

          I've seen the whiteish in glass before, probably just impurities that you notice when the glass is thicker.
