Fixing Guitar Hero Drums

I was playing with the cymbals on the drum kit when I accidentally pulled the wires out of one of the plugs. I figured this was something I could easily solder back together, but I just ended up butchering the original plug, which looked like this:

Now I'm left with just the exposed wires here and no plug:

I think the plug is just a 1/8 plug like on most headphones. Is this something I can fix on my own with minimal soldering experience? Here are the tools I'm using:

Is that plumbing solder (acid core)? If so, don't use it, the acid will destroy electronics. Go to radio shack or similar and get some lead/tin rosin core solder.

You should be able to do it its down to preparation.
The mini jack looks like a mono one buy 2 .
If the first attempt fails you can try again.
Cut the wires so that they physically fit neatly into the plug
(dont forget to slide the cover on the cable first..many a tech gets caught by this)so that there is no strain on the wires when soldering.
The main problem could be excessive heat which can melt the spacers/insulation in the plug or cause the insulation to melt around the wire.
You will have to be quick when the iron is at the right temperature.
The fine wires in the cable should be twisted so they don't splay out when heated . It may pay to wash your hands before as twisting the wires
(kinda rolling them clockwise between thumb and index finger)with fingers could put a small amount of "grease" on the wire making it harder to solder.
Some times I use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the wire and plug before soldering this makes sure it takes first time.A small piece of heat shrink slid over the wire beforehand (providing it will fit under the plug cover) will provide extra strength after the clamp end of the plug is squeezed around the sheath.Slide the heat shrink over the clamp and heat it with a hot air gun or heavy duty hairdryer or a cigarette lighter being carefull not to burn the plastic.Some times I scrape the terminals with a sharp knife or needle file prior to wipeing them clean.

Thanks for the help guys,

I ended up hacking apart an old microphone with a 1/8 jack:


and exposed the wires using an exacto knife;


the microphone jack had the same inner and outer wires and responded after a quick test so I went ahead and just spliced the wires together


Its a pretty temporary fix, but it works just fine. Eventually, I'll probably solder the wires together permanently and cover it with shrink tubing


Unfortunately, fixing this problem only led to more guitar hero related destruction
