  • Peavey CS-800 Need Help!!

    Hi guys,
I have a CS800, s/n00-05985512, it's the "wind-tunnel" with the layout on the top cover, and plastic front cover.
It worked fine for years, I powered it up and channel B is now dead, the protect light blinks as it should when the relays click, but the power light doesn't come on!? Any thoughts or help!!?? Thanks!!

    Welcome to the board.

The power supply on that amp, I believe is a switching supply that will not power up the circuit if it detects a problem with the output. It could be a short in the output transistors or a problem with the overtemp circuit.

Here's a question for you, is the cooling fan running at high speed?

I feel like a dumbass, I had it accidentally switched to BRIDGE mode, which "disables" channel B!! Switched to stereo, and it works fine!! Thanks to Grant at Peavey's tech support! He says he "fixes" that problem several times a week!!!

There are all manner of CS800s. More recent vintages have the wind tunnel - a fan in the rear and a large grille opening in the front. CS800x for example.

The only ones with switching supplies have an S at the end, so CS800s is the one with a switcher.

On the switchers, if it detects an overload - such as shorted output stages - it won;t start up. But that would leave the whole machine dead, not just one side. There are not separate switchers for each channel.

Fortunately he has sorted it out without resorting to a soldering iron.
