Headphone output to Tascam?

I would like to record a drum track from my cheap digital drum pad into my Tascam 4 track cassette Portastudio. The drum pad only has a headphone output. I was going to use a stereo to mono phono adapter to split out one channel and feed it into my Tascam. Will I damage my Tascam this way? If this practice is OK, do I feed the Tascam mic input or line level input? The drum pad is powered by 6 “C” batteries or a 9v DC adapter @800mA. Thanks

feed it to the line input but watch it so it doesnt overload, turn level down on the drumpad and watch your gain at the tascam input. if possible use separate stereo outputs and mixdown or route to same channel instead of the stereo to mono plug, if not it may work too.
