what open wires? 110VAC, Speaker wires?

If the main power light is still coming on, that's a positive sign. The expensive damage happens when there is a fault in the power supply or especially the power amplifier section, both of which normally blow the main fuse.

Depending on what voltage you hit, you may have burned a trace or fried an op-amp or opened a resistor around the input section.

Do you get a signal when you plug into the power amp input jack?

        Ampeg SVT 4

If you are really lucky, you may have taken out one or more internal fuses.
Here is the schematic for the power board.
Page 3 shows the power supply section.

plug a sound source (cd player, mp3, pc, something) into the effects return jack, do you have any sound here? if no, check power supply fuses. If yes, then you have possibly burned som traces on the input jack area (ground trace especially) and/or an op amp stage.

          Keep us informed -Thanks -Eric
