  • Power Transformer Interchangeable?

    Hi,

I have a general knowledge question about the interchangeability of PT's in any given guitar amp.

Will a PT from any 100W 6L6 amp work as a replacement for any other 100W 6L6 amp? What are the considerations? Would the tranny be ok to power an equal number (or fewer) of tubes both preamp and power amp or are there other curcuit considerations I am neglecting?

    Thanks,
    Mr.

Generally speaking, probably. certain design considerations include whether or not a center tap is needed and heater current, as well as a rectifier winding if needed. Mounting and orientation are also important. However, if both amps are of similar design, like I said, probably yes.

      Amen.

What John said. And if one uses a bias supply tap while the other expects bias to be drawn from the B+ winding, then making that swap will require a reconfiguration of the bias supply.
