  • Takamine preamp, unity gain?

I am looking at a CT-4 preamp which seems to be working but is not amplifying much. Is a little less than unity gain except down around 40Hz the output is almost doubled. I am using about 150mV rms input signal.
If this is normal and it is more of a buffer than preamp, I will assume the problem is elsewhere. (I was given the preamp only to test).

    I think you hit it.
If it works it's probably a buffer, new stuff that hasn't been damaged and works, is almost certainly working good.
Contacting the outlet or manufacturer, as well as reading the 'blurb' if available online [what you see if you can find your product new]. If you find a 'blurb' page or even a specifications page and don't see 'gain' in the texts..
It could well be a buffer stage.

Have verified that this is indeed normal. Problem was in the cable that connects to the endpin jack.
