Ah, it is like loud music. To my mom, anything over the loudness of a table radio set for background music was TOO LOUD! On stage of course if I played at levels none of us would think loud, all my mom would have heard was the loudness.

If you don't eat a lot of spicy food, then the spice hogs your attention. If you are used to spicy food, then the mouth sensation doesnl;t hog your attentiion, and the overall taste experience is available. Then one day you will be ready to go to the Thai restaurant down the street. Now THOSE folks know HOT.

Yep. A friend of mine had been in Indonesia for a while and when he came back he invited me for dinner. I tried some of the "sauce" (mainly pickled peppers) with the tip of a knife (I took his warning and just used the tip of the knife). The stuff was so hot, I felt the spot of heat on my tongue all night long.

Hi guys, I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to write such insightful responses to my question. Very much appreciated!

I also love how this thread became a conversation on spicy peppers, Haha. Don't know if you've had Sri Lankan food… I've eaten a fair deal of it and I'm still lucky if I don't end meals in a puddle of tears, sweat and mucus. Damn tasty, though…

Well, I guess we did hijack your thread, but at least after telling you things were OK. Besides, hot peppers are important too.
