  • Outing myself.

I did it, I didn't mean to, but I did. Always said I'd never do it again, but here I am. I know enough not to snicker when someone else does it. At least no one was here watching when I did.

I just soldered the plug on the end of the cable without sliding the plug shell over the wire first.

I won't admit how many times I've done that.
But only once when a customer was watching.....

        WHAT ?????
What do you mean by that ?
You imply that those "cylindrical transportation protectors" are to be re-mounted on the plugs *after* soldering?
And what would the utility of that be?
How will you inspect daily the quality of the soldering job?
        Sometimes I don't get you Guys. !!!

hehe. this isn't the first time you've outed yourself for doing that either.

I've a great way to correct that. I just cut the other plug off and slip the shell over from the other side.

I would, but it is special cable that only has one end.

yeah, really sucks to discover esp. after you were just patting yourself on the back for making a nice joint.

Good job self. Uh...what is that!

I was at a jobsite where our welder was welding in some support stanchions. He climbed down to move the ladder to the next one only to discover that he had welded it through the rungs of his ladder. He took the savvy approach and made a big deal out if it and made sure everyone had a chance to see it... which meant the wind was already out of the sails by the time we were ready to give him a hard time about it later over adult beverages.

So it took some time, but I'm finally learning to put the cover on the wire in the proper sequence. Would any of you good folk like to hip me to whether the heatshrink tubing goes on the wire before you solder it in place, or after?
