  • Raytheon Voltage Stabilizer

So, I was in the Habitat for Humanity thrift store today and found a Raytheon Voltage Stabilizer. It's a big transformer that does ac in, ac out. It says on the plate that you can put 95 - 130 volts in and get 115 volts out. I don't know why I'd need such a thing, but it was only $5 and it looks cool.

What I'm really wondering though, is, is this also an isolation transformer? I have a good friend who loves his Silvertone "amp-in-the-case". I've warned him of the danger, but it does sound damn good. Is this thing the cure?

It's probably not isolated if it uses an autoformer (similar to variac) , instead of transformer with separate primary and secondary.

Take an ohm meter to it. Either the primary and secondary connections have continuity or they don't.
