  • Defective Switchcraft #226 Plug - Dead Short

Just thought I'd share since it's the first time I've had a bad (new) Switchcraft part. Of course I had to cut it apart & find out what was up.

The sleeve terminal looks like it got into a wrong place in the stamper after being punched out and had a mis-shaped hole where the tip rivet insulator goes through, causing it to punch a hole in the insulator and make an intermittent shorting connection there.

Of course this was far from the first place I looked as I was trying to figure out why my project didn't work right...

Probably really rare, but FYI anyway.

Yes, something like that can easily fly in under your radar, but that is one of those lessons we have to learn again and again. There is NO part that is immune to failure.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Selling parts we used to spot check for quality control, but always told customers to double check the part before instalation. It is easy to check parts when they are out of a circuit and that free replacement just doesn't seam to be enough after the time and gas you spent finding it. It also doesn't cover the things that might have gotten fried. Unfortunatley bad replacements happen. If your selling them you might see a couple a month. When you return it tell em it caught your garage on fire. You'll get a lifetime discount.
