Interesting one of the models is a Gibson EH-185. I was given one a few years ago in need of repair. Maybe it's a better sounding amp than what I would have thought.

I don't think the DT will put anybody out of business. It might be a good amp, or not, but so are many others. Just another option IMHO.

With all those relays in critical parts of the tube circuitry, when it goes bad, it's likely to get really ugly...

I do;'t like saying 'beyond economical repair', and rarely do, but I've said that on two Line 6 combos recently.

This forum post is linked from a tweet & blog (line 6 dt series puts us all out of bbusiness | Musical Instruments Blog) through something called adfly which I assume is generating the blog poster some pennies every time someone clicks on "read more" and gets directed here via the advert page. Seems a little scammish to me.
My response to the op's question would be: Like the original line 6 amp was going to put everyone out of business?
An amp company based on a computer business model will not bankrupt all the amp builders. Board swaps, disposable amps and software updates may be acceptable to some, but never to all.
That being said, apparently this is a Bogner design with tubes so I doubt they will be doing the triple layer board/board swap type thing but who knows?

Edit: I see many of the forum posts are linked thru the blog & ad page so I guess it is a moot point. Probably nothing new as far as the internet goes but I was not aware of how much of this type of ad/linking was actually going on.

Let's put it in perspective. What was the last time any amplifier "innovation" put ANYONE else out of business? Figuratively or literally.

For that matter, I don't see what is really so exciting about a digital simulation preamp married to a tube power amp with the usual tricks-- i.e. triode/pentode, cathode/fixed bias, etc. Maybe just maybe if the preamp did something really extreme and new, something completely radical then I could be interested. But simulations of all those fabulous amps of the past and present? Sounds boring to me. As well the MSRP of 1800$ for a combo? From Line 6? No thanks...
