  • Dirt cheap 15/31 band EQ boards

one of the better surplus dealers (electronicsgoldmine.com) has some higher end graphic EQ slide pot boards for sale due to "extra solder blobs" likely a simple fix even if SMD.

Dying to know whose they are but mine haven't arrived yet!

Spacing looks right for the Ashly GQX-3102 and GQX-1502, which go for ~$600 but hell they could be Behringer...

oh they also have a mess of bootstrap "supercaps" from Maxwell, with the biggest being 289 Farad at 22.5V = 73125 Joules!!??

Those look like dbx to me.

Let's hope the "extra solder blobs" was NOT an errant trip through a cold or dirty wave solder machine, or the entire solder side of the board can be one bigh solder blob!!! :O

For real. Maxwell make supercaps in the thousands of farads.

This reminds me of when I was a kid looking for the ultimate "woofie drone tone". Using a hacksaw blade I carefully cut the graphic EQ section out of the circuit board of an old stereo system. (The cheap and nasty kind that looks like a stack of separates, but it's actually one big circuit board inside.) I then connected the two channels in series to double the amount of boost/cut, and mounted it in my newly homebuilt amp. Adjusted it for a huge mid scoop, and I was happy.

My brother, who had more classical tastes in guitar tone, said "No! You're using it wrong" and shoved the bass sliders right down, and the mid and high ones all the way up.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"
