  • Drop 2A to 1.5 A for battery

A bit outside of guitar guitar amps but I see a Canadian Tire special on a smart charger for $20. It does 2 amps but not lower and my AGM motorcycle battery lists 1.5 amps for 5 hrs. If I can add, in series, a big resistor what might be a good value? 470Ω at 5 watt?

I also thought of using a 14 volt 1A wall wart but the smart chargers seem dang cool.

Is that 1.5A for the initial charge when new? What is the AH (ampere hour) rating of the battery? I use 2A charger or even 4A for bike batteries. The current falls quickly as soon as the battery is partly charged, it shouldn't keep 2Amps on it, that should just be the max. possible. Especially if it is "smart".

Edit: Upon further reading, unit is suitable for AGM type batteries, not suitable for batteries smaller than 7AH.
