  • Dealing with Universal Audio?

Someone has approached me about doing a repair on a Universal Audio 610 Solo preamp, and, based on what I've googled so far, it appears to me that UA is one of those companies that's somewhat disinclined to cooperate with third-party techs. I've read, for example, that they don't allow access to their schematics.

Is that impression correct or incorrect?

Well instead of relying on a maybe why don't you call them and be sure. Sometimes policies change.

Their policy hasn't changed. I worked on a 610 a couple of weeks ago, and no service info will be supplied. You must send it back. Fortunately, it was a compressor issue and the compressor is very similar to an LA-2A, so it all worked out.

John is, as usual, correct. I talked to them this morning.

At least they were very polite about it--as opposed to my experiences with Musical Hostility, err, I mean Musical Fidelity.
