Mackie 1604VLZ problem

Hey all...been ages since I've posted here.

I have a Mackie 1604VLZ (my own) and it has a strange problem....every even numbered channel (2,4,6, etc) has output to the mains, even with the master fader down to minimum. Slide the fader up on those channels and sound comes out the output, even with master fader bottomed out. The odd numbered channels work normally. Maybe I'm missing something obvious here...it's been known to happen before

Any ideas?

I suspect between the panning and the sub group pannings and sub group assigning, you have those channels panned/assigned to both left and right.

Any chance you use the input channels in pairs panned left and right for stereo inputs? And all the ones panned left are on the left side, and all the ones panned right should be on the right, but their subgroup is sending them to both sides?

Hi Enzo...a bit of history on the board. It hasn't been used in about 8 years. I pulled it out so I could use it on a gig this coming weekend as our trusty old yamaha board gave up the ghost during our last practice (the best time) and I have no time to get into it before then.

I was testing it in stereo (although the band runs mono) and all pan pots were left/right as you mentioned. The only assign buttons pressed in were the L/R buttons on the bottom. I noticed they were acting flaky (intermittent) when I first pulled it out and hooked it up so I just mashed each one several dozen times to help them clean themselves and it seems to have worked. The even channel bleed through seems to have gone away. When I get a chance, I'll have to rip into it and see if the switches are "cleanable" (any space where D5 Deoxit can sneak in there).

Little square posts on the switch under the buttons? I can usually dribble some deoxit down along the post and into it.

I grab the square button cap with pliers and pull it off.
