  • Peavey speaker not working

    Hi all nub here
I bought a set of speakers from the pawn shop to go with my peavey escort 3000
They are PR 15 thought it was a great deal $120 for both said they don't work stupid?
I was hoping it was the fuse one had a blown fuse the other one only the tweeter would play but not loud so I switch the fuse to the other speaker
and it did the same only the tweeter played but not loud.
So my question is do you think it is a bad board in the speakers or ?
    Please help a cheap nub

Call Peavey & ask for the schematic for the PR-15.
    Then post it back here.

Welcome to the place. From your description it sound like both of the woofers are dead. It's possible that both of the crossovers are bad or that there are fuses for the woofers on the crossover boards. Getting the schematics from Peavey will show if that is the case.

The fast test is to open up the cabinets and remove the woofers. Then touch a 9 volt battery across the two terminals on the speaker and see if they make any sound. If they do, then check the crossovers and the wiring. If they don't, then the speakers need to be reconed or replaced.

I tested the speakers with the battery nothing so I'm ordering speakers for them, the tweeters I was told if they play they should be good that's what the peavey tech said.
But peavey want to much for replacement woofers so I found parts-express lot cheaper they have peavey 15" woofer pro replacement same speakers that comes in them.
So thanks so much for your input

Are you aware that you can buy replacement baskets for Peavey speakers? That could save you some money vs. buying complete new speakers.
You can check them out at Antique Electronic Supply . Look under Speakers / Peavey

Peavey Pro 15 Neo Low Frequency Speaker Driver 8 Ohm

Peavey's 15" Neo driver features a KevlarŪ impregnated cellulose cone. The 2-layer copper voice coil is thermally bonded to a Kapton former with Nomex stiffener.
Solid speaker not rebuild-able that's what I was told. The speaker is in great shape no tears or rips just doesn't work.
This is the replacement speaker same one that came in it here is the web site I found.

The speaker is a Peavey PR 15

Replacement baskets are only available for some Peavey models, like Scorpions and Black Widows.

The Peavey Neos are good speakers and with them, the cabs will perform to the published specs. You can stick most any similar sized speaker in there, and it will function, but you will need to watch what you use if you want similar performance. In other words a 75 watt speaker won't allow the cab to handle full power, though it would work at lower levels.

If you found the exact Peavey speaker cheaper at Parts Express, then buy it there. Peavey sells parts direct, but they do charge list price for them. Parts Express looks like they are selling at 20% off list. On the other hand, here is a link to the Peavey page and it appears they are selling it for $68.79, same as Parts Express.

              Peavey :: Pro 15 Neo

The other factor is shipping. I don't know about here, but in some cases, Peavey includes shipping in their prices, maybe not for speakers. But if they cost the same and one includes shipping, there's a deal maker.

                Thanks for the info Terry.
The price for the Neo looks very reasonable and actually less than just a basket for the Black Widow series.

I don't see a price on the parts express link, what I see is "this product is no longer available".

That is a change that has happened in the last 24 hours.
