  • Checking surplus

I haven't been to my favorite surplus outlets in a while so I went looking.

One old place I always like is Fair Radio www.fairradio.com

You never know what they will have in transformers

Stock numbers are not very systematic.

Check out 8316527 for only $7.50. Might be cool for a small project. Ther are others too. They always list the secondary voltages and usually the current ratings as well. Always watch the primary voltages and make sure the transformer is made for 60Hz. The military stuff can be for 400Hz. I'm a sucker for the hermetically sealed ones with the little terminals on the end.

SOmetimes they have interesting variacs. They have a couple 0-60 variacs with the cute note that running two in series gets you up to 120v.

SOme spiffy old military test gear. I think a nifty old URM-127 would look good on any bench. Looks like it means business. Plenty of old HP stuff like 204s.

    SOme interesting scopes too.

Springtime is surplus time. I gotta start watching the MSU scrap yard.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
