How can I connect USB speakers to CD player

Hello all,



for a certain project I need to do what the title says. I acquired USB Altec Orbit speakers and thought a simple adapter cinch/usb female jack will do! Of course it didn't work and then I learned about the different nature of the signals. What converter should I get? The setup is as follows, two speakers, one Y-cable, one CD player. There is no option of buying other speakers with audio jack. I'd rather invest in a pricey converter, if there is one.

no other way that I know of, as the Orbit speakers don't have an analog input.

well the certain look of these certain cd players are part of the project.. they were purchased on purpose...

the usb cable of the speakers are too short anyway so they each will need an extension cable to the Y-cord cinch jacks. there MUST be some cable salad construcion that will help, eh?

No there is not, the USB audio protocol needs a computer to drive it, and a CD player isn't enough of a computer.

If the looks are really so important, you'll have to open up the speakers and replace their guts with the guts from some other speakers that support analog input. That's what I'd do anyway.

uh, okay, thanks. i guess i could do either that, replace them by new ones or go with the notebook option. man, do i feel stupid now.

*OR* open the Orbits.
Locate the actual power amp inputs, and wire them straight to some direct input jack you can add.
After all, USB input or whatever, somewhere that gets converted to regular Audio.

*OR* buy the ones which already have a 3.5mm jack input.
You bought the wrong ones. (USB only).

no I didn't buy "the wrong ones" I knew what i was buying and I needed exactly those, I just didn't know anything about the difference between analog and digital signal, I thought a cimple usb/cinch adapter for one euro would do. but yeah, I ordered the other ones today. thank you

I need 4 of them plus shipping but I exaggerated, it's actually only 76 including everything. i got them even cheaper than 25$ still, had i known about analog/digital, I wouldnt have had the extra expenses. why is that no common knowledge? I asked a budding engineer how to connect everything and he obviously gave me ill advice

Well, the answer is there, on the advertisement, at least the one I quoted, but agree that it should be worded more clearly.
When advertising for technical peopleyou can "imply" many things, but this particular product is for the general public.
My own daughter might certainly be interested in it, as an example.
Oh well.
