  • Pedal Steel wiring?

I know that this is probably a stupid question, but I wanted to know if the bridge and strings on a pedal steel are usually connected to the audio ground as they are in a typical electric guitar.

I got a pedal steel in the shop that had previously been rewired by someone with inadequate soldering skills, to put it mildly. A ground wire was included, but it was attached to the same metal bracket the input jack is connected to, so the ground was grounded to itself. There's no connection to the bridge/strings/other mechanisms and nothing to indicate whether or not this ground wire was part of the original wiring.

What brand of guitar is this?
    Does it have metal endplates?
I've never seen a ground wire on any of mine that I've owned, other than pup ground to the output jack ground. I checked one, and the strings are grounded by connection to the changer fingers and the return springs that are attached to the endplate and changer fingers.

      Jerry,

The pedal steel is back with its owner now. It wasn't a brand I'd ever heard of before. It has metal endplates, and the output jack is grounded to one of them. However, that endplate was not electrically tied to the changer fingers and strings. I installed a ground wire that made this connection.

I looked up the brand. It appears to be an early, slightly primitive-looking MSA Sidekick or similar model.
