  • Bill Lawrence in good health, and working/playing.

    tonequester here.

Just for general information for anyone who might be interested. I had heard by way of the forum that Bill Lawrence(pick-up designer well known), was hospitalized, and in ill health. I made a pick-up order from Wilde Pick-ups today, which is the company Bill works with(do to patent issues). I spoke with his wife Becky, and
she assured me that he is in fine health and was at that moment at work in the winding shop. She said that he has a video of himself playing on April 15th., on his personal website,
billlawrence.com. I have not had the chance to watch it yet, but it is nice to know that he is A.O.K. tonequester.

Thanks for that. Nice to hear. I'm sure a lot of folks have nothing but good wishes for Bill, and he's earned every single one.

That's good to hear. I've bought pickups from them before... They are good sounding and very reasonably priced too..

Greetings mojah, and nice to make your aquaintance here on the forum. You are right. Great pick-ups and very reasonable prices from one of the true pioneers in pick-up design I'm about to order a special Strat style single coil(noiseless) and a stacked humbucker, with a Q-filter. Total cost WITH shipping.....$122.50 ! I bought my first L-500 in 1982, and Stew-Mac handled them back then. Their prices in'82 weren't much cheaper than he is charging now. Thanks for the good thoughts and the reply. tonequester.

Greetings JM. It's good to know that folks on the forum care about such a man. I've done some reading about him, and he is one of the true pioneers in guitar pickup
developement, not to mention being an accomplished musician. I've had conversation with his wife Becky, and they run a true "mom and pop" operation with Wilde Pickups handling sales.
It seems that when he had a falling out with a partner he lost the right to use his name "up front" in his business, but made it away with a lot of (then) state of the art pickup making
tooling/machinery. When I called, he was actually operating a winding machine in his home shop. One has to admire a man who makes high quality "anything" and charges vey reasonable prices. The noisless single coil and the stacked humbucker I'm ordering come to $98.00. Shipping is $8.95. Both use Alnico 5 magnets. The single coil has staggered pole pieces and the humbucker is bladed. If they are made like the last one I bought, they are also potted in epoxy to prevent microphonics and eliminate any small possibility of shorting. I hope all is well with you, and that fine s.s. amplifier of yours is still performing up to your standards. Have a good one. tonequester.
