  • Home-made effects pedal. Slight problem.

    Hello all,
I recently made a distortion/fuzz pedal from a pre-existing circuit board from an old radio. The circuit is meant to run off 6v but to make life easier I have wired it up to run off a 9v. It sounds great, I am very happy with it. But it is soo loud. I can barely get my amp to 1 with out worrying about the amp or my ears. I new to electronics but I have a basic knowledge.

Is there a way to reduce the fixed overall loudness of the pedal without sacrificing any of its awesome tone? Resisitors? maybe run off 4 aa batteries to keep the voltage consistent? I open to ideas.

Slap a volume control on its output.

I did that too but it affects the sound way too much. Also I need to be able to use it for shows so I cant turn the amp down while kicking the pedal on

NO, I mean add a volume control to the output of the pedal itself. It can even be a trimmer inside, it dooesn;t have to be a knob on the outside. Not suggesting to turn down the amp.

So for example, if the output of your pedal is a wire from a circuit over to the output jack, then connect that wire to the top lug of a 250k pot instead, ground the other end, and then run another piece of wire from the pot wiper over to the jack. Now that pot sets the overall volume of the pedal.
