  • MJE205 NPN replacement options......??

    I have Npn Silicon transistor MJE205 50V 5a 65watts.

Only thing I have been able to cross reference it to are 2n5977, 2n5983, 2sd493, NTE182.

What other options do I have since I'm not able to find one?

    Thanks, nosaj

What is it used for? The legs are in different order, but a TIP41C should work fine. Is yours on a heat sink? If not, the TIP41 would stick in the same holes but facing the other way.

When subbing, those numbers are guides, but a 6A 80V 75W something or other would be OK too. You need not find those exact numbers. You can look deeper at things like gain and the current it is taken at, in which the TIP41 closely resembles your part.

I believe it is the output transistor in a Gibson g30 solid state. The RCA 105 I found tip42 crossreference to it.
They bolted to the chassis with a plastic screw with wires soldered to the legs.

        Thanks,

Um... TIP42 is PNP. TIP41 is NPN.

          And prefix matters.
          TIP41 - 40v
          TIP41A - 60v
          TIP41B - 80v
          TIP41C - 100v

The RCA105 is the other transistor I need to replace. Odd thing is looking at the g30 schematic It is showing a 2n3055 for q2 and a 2n2148 for q9 they are t0-3 packages. The ones on the amp were chips with 3 legs, The chassis doesn't look like it ever had to-3's on it.

And the amp is a Gibson, which means there could easily be half a dozen versions of the same model number.
