  • yikes! Fender Deville pops when going from standby

OK all, This amp has it's demons...it came to me with multitudes of problems...which I've pretty much worked through...motorboating (bad filter cap), noisy preamp (bad tubes and plate load resistors), distortion on output...open plateload resistor on pase splitter....and it goes on and on...and this poor guy has had this amp to two "reputable" tech shops.

I think the last problem is that there is a fairly loud pop when I take the amp off standby. It's been so long since I've worked on a Deville (seriously!), I can't remember if this is "normal" or not. If not...any ideas??? I'm pretty much at my wits end on this amp...I just don't want to be tech #3 that screws the poor guy...

    Thanks!

    Answer my own thread...

It looks like V1 was the culprit...I replaced it with another 12ax7 and pop is still there but probably only 10% of what it used to be with the other tube. Hopefully this is the last demon to be exorcised.
