  • 1993 blues deville bright switch problem

Thanks to this forum i finally have my deville sounding good again. My only problem is that the bright switch worked before i installed the fromel kit but does nothing now. Does anyone know if the kit somehow cancels the swich from working or do i have some other problem? As always any input is very much appreciated. Thanks, tom

I know that you posted about this amp before, and I went to the fromel site, but I still don't know what you have installed in the amp. Can you either tell us or at least link us to the exact mods that you have done?

The bright switch, S1A, either connects the cap, C3, across R6 or it doesn't.
You should be able to verify that bit of logic with a meter.

This is what i added to my blues deville- bridged pins 2 &3 on mid tone pot---installed .1 orange drop cap atc6--.15 oarnge drop at c7--250p silver mica cap at c5---- 100pf mica across pins 1 and 2 on both vol and drive pots-----installed 470 ohm power resistors at r85 and rr86---91k resistor at r51--100k resistors at r52,r4,r9,and r18----- remove c50 under reverb pot and leave out---installed switchcraft input jacks-- as i said the bright switch worked before alterations- anyhelp is more than welcome, thanks ,tom

Have you placed a meter across the switch to verify that the contacts work?
Have you made sure the connections from the cap to the switch are secure?

I feel like a fool-- when i removed the caps to install the fromel caps my old eyes must have read c-3 as c-5 or something. Therefore i am using the amp with no 750 1k cap jnstalled. I cant find one locally as i ruined the original removeing it. Is there any way to substitute another value cap.thanks again, tom

              Capacitor - Silver Mica, 750 pF @ 500V | Antique Electronic Supply

Not 1K, but 500v is plenty for the circuit. You can try other values here too, might find a value you prefer more than the original. 680pf - 1000pf? What values do you have?
