Today (in daylight) I had another closer look at its circuit board and didn't see anything burnt or blown up. I then thought I should trace the circuitry around the power plug and noticed that the positive voltage went to ground on a output plug and a 9V battery I held onto the PS became hot (!) ...That's when I realized that I confused the polarity of the input plug, "believing" the center plug was positive (only at Boss it's reverse!)
I even ignored the polarity description near the plug. Luckily the protection diode shorted the reverse polarity input. For years I didn't touch this P.EQ and so, forgot all about its PS irregularity. I made a fool of myself.
