  • Wharfedale SVP 12pm chip

    Hi All.
I have this unit for repair. Anyone know where I can get SMPS control IC DT5188A?
Maybe there is another part number for the same chip.

Don't you just love it when designers spec parts that will obsolete their product as soon as their initial production order is depleted?

I have never heard of it but with 35 bizillion PWM controllers out there, that is not surprising.
Is the supply a separate module or is it integrated into the amp pc board? If the former, it is probably an off the shelf module used by various manufacturers and the part stamp indicates a house number for the OEM of the supply.
If the supply is integrated into the amp board, it is probably a design lifted from the producer's application notes. Doing a search for controllers that have the same pin out and basic operating maximums you can probably find a compatible or the actual non-house marked designation. Compare the app notes to the schematic and if they are very close, use it. Switchers are hard to prototype to get the efficiency and stability and lack of EMI that the suggested layout and component selection in the chip application notes list. The odds are good that the same values are used and layout copied as a result. There is likely a number of common parts that will plug in as functional equivalents.
