  • Roland XP 10 Backlight

We have a Roland XP 10 keyboard that has no backlight on the liquid crystal display. We believe the first ones introduced in 1996
had no backlight on the display. We have date coded the serial number ZI06089 and have determined this particular
keyboard was manufactured in March of 1997.

It's not cost effective to take it apart to find out the answer, let alone doing the same to install
    a $150.00 replacement display.

So does anyone know if this keyboard was one of the first manufactured without a backlit liquid crystal display?

Or were all XP 10's manufactured with a back lit display?

The manual for the Roland XP-10, dated 1995, has instructions on setting the brightness of the display on page 62. It's downloadable from Roland's website.
What makes you think they made one's with no backlight? Just curious.

Although I don't recall the XP-10 specifically, most Roland keyboards are not too difficult to disassemble... if you're used to taking apart keyboards. You might have a bad connection, or it might be dead.

I had read in a forum that the first ones did not have a backlight.

Today I found this and it answers my question, that is if this keyboard is a first production.

if yours does not have backlight (first production run did not), replacing the display will add it (nice!).

        Later XP-10's do have backlights.
Sometimes you see them for sale on eBay.

I've seen both at gigs and used music stores.
The backlight is a green color.
The ones without backlight have a gray background.
