  • Electric violins?

Anybody in here play them or make them?

I am building a solid-body electric violin and am looking for information on the best way to pick up a signal from the strings. Would a bridge transducer pickup be adequate, or should I wind some pickups?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Nope.

But there is some good info at these links.

It really is going to depend on the type of violin & the sound that you want from it (electrically)

Well, I *have* made electric violins, semi-commercially.
A friend was the actual Luthier and I was in charge of the electrical side.
Best idea we had was to forget the classic fancy "S"cut bridge (it was a *solid* violin, afer all, so we had already jumped from the ship into the Ocean) and custom make solid bridges, where i cut a side notch to pressure fit a homemade piezo pickup.
Yes, it did sound "electric" .... so what?
We were moderately successful (commercially) , which was more than expected, and , of course, FUN.
