  • optimus (rs) mic.

    Hi,
I have an Optimus 330-3017 battery - powered condensor mic. A 1.5 AA battery powers the mic. I stumbled across a forum where someone mentioned that combining two 6v. camera batteries that are approx. 1/2 the length of an AA could be used in series to bring the voltage up to 12v. thus making the microphone much more "usable". What gives ? Anybody have an explanation?

How about a link to the 'stumbled upon' forum.

According to the owners manual, the mic draws 1ma.
And that is supposed to translate to 1000 hours of use.

So what is supposed to be better.

I don't know that mic, but SOME mics can be used on battery and will have less output and less headroom that way compared to 48v phantom.

Silk purse from a sows ear department. it might be marginally "better" in some way, but really, if it matters, it might be time to just invest in a real microphone.
