I agree with Doug Self's comment: where does improving the incoming AC power line stop? Should a truly dedicated audiophool gold plate the power poles all the way back to the power generation station?
    Shhhh.... RG.

I retired from a power company last year and I used to go in the doghouse of the 230kv substation so I could listen to my mp3 player on AC.

A while back people on the WATMM forums were making up a hoax Aphex Twin album called Konklaver. It got a little overboard:

"Finally, someone is having the balls to release on the best format for audio reproduction ever--marble. It takes a neutron laser to cut the grooves so all pressings are done at the Tianwan-2 reactor in Lianyunyang, China to cope with the energy demands. A cobalt stylus is needed to play the record and since there is only one manufacturer out of Zaire--a major cobalt producer--a cartridge runs $1,000 USD.

The response from a marble record is unparalleled and seems to exceed standard measurement tools' ability to measure the fidelity. But that's not why Rephlex is interested. Always in the business of encouraging new and original copies of their music, they also like the small amount of radiation imbued by the laser during engraving. While not harmful to the record purchaser, it is fatally damaging to all computer and sound recording equipment. Listeners run the risk of destroying their hard earned if they attempt to FLAC this release like they're used to.

Furthermore, within 5 plays, the cobalt and marble interactions result in an intense amount of heat that degrades the grooves beyond listenability. Regarding this issue, Grant said, "Well, everyone's proper chuffed over Richard's music innit so we want to encourage the purchase of multiple copies that listeners can use to sort out how many times they want to listen to it. We hope the average punter will do two. Someone who is well posh would want to do more so they can be sure they're enjoying a new and original copy all over again."

So, what's the damage on the new album "Konklaver" by AFX? A princely sum of $6,400 USD gets you the 12" marble release inside of a reinforced steel case covered in alpaca hide and fur. Well, I know the lot of you are thinking what I'm thinking and are brushing up on your French and Kikongo to order those cartridges! The googly-eyed ginger genius has done it again fellas!"

The guy who owned the store got to talking about how my buddy needed to buy $pecial, ultra-heavy hose-like power cables...
        Like this one?

They are usually just standard gauge lamp wire inside a garden hose that has a sock over it.

Some serious cable now. Takes all day to strip & splice but - - - you only have to do it once! Well, at least until something better is marketed. Cross-section photo, no cat this time. I use this cable to provide 3-phase audio to my high figh speakers. Not 3-phase power, AUDIO. For that 3-dimensional sound. Beat that if you can, audiophools and high figh salesmen !!!

My hi-fi amp is so 'now' it doesn't need mains power. It's an eco amp, powered by belief in the impossible. The salesman also said I have great taste in clothes. The only thing is, the sound is so clear I can now hear that every track is recorded with whispering voices telling me to kill my mother..

You may scoff, but I tell you this; Nothing is impossible. One day man will walk on the moon and meat will come in cans.

I wonder, do audiophiles pick & choose what live act concerts they see based on whether the band is using audiophile-grade AC cords to power their stage equipment (if it makes such a difference)?

Actually methinks the audiophile would poopoo a live performance since there are so many uncontrolled variables. Better to listen at home after all the compression/EQ/overdubs/mix have been ironed out in a studio which for sure would use all that silver-plated skin-effect hoo-ha...
