Well, DUH! It's not the VOLTAGE that kills, it's the CURRENT! So, yeah, I'll plug it into whatever voltage I can find...

Kinda like when I put that 2" clock radio speaker on my Bassman 100... hey, it's 4ohms, it'll be fine!

The IEC plug is not the problem.
FWIW *all* equipment bought in an European store will be 230V ... period.
100% of used European or "international/export" stuff too (meaning it was wired for 230V .... how was it used otherwise?)
And the few unwireable ones, will be coupled to a nice 220/110V transformer and come with parallel flatblade US plugs.

By the way, the only way to plug an amp into the wall or extension is to have a cable with the proper mains plug on end, the USA type will NOT fit.

***THERE*** is the fool proof safety connector mismatch .

*IF* the musician finds that his original cable will not fit into the wall ..... hey !!!! , that "should" ring a couple bells, shouldn´t it?

If he chooses to IGNORE that blatant safety warning ... I do not feel pity for him, at all.

To boot, that 110V equipment was either just brought from USA (110V , remember?) by himself , was just imported (EBAY find?) or bough from somebody who did.

In any case, he should be acutely aware of the wall voltage difference.

Different (keyed) IEC connectors will NOT prevent that unless ONLY wall cables available (strictly enforced of course) have matching wall plugs and voltage specific keyed IEC connectors ... which defeats the original IEC idea to begin with.
