  • Markbass Big Bang No Power

Markbass Big Bang 500 watt head - manufactured 02/2013. Bought it off ebay for parts or repair, took it to a computer repair guy due to lack off an amp repair shop and he believes problem could be ic5 due to some testing and to the fact that the numbers have been grinded off of the ic, making him believe it's a high fault part? Anyone have schematic or know what ic5 is would be appreciated. Thanks.

    He's guessing.

They don't grind numbers off because they are high failure parts. They grind them off because they don't want you to know what the part is. It is their way of keeping their circuit proprietary.

ANother reason might be that certain parts are selected for some characteristic, so they grind off the number so a tech in the future doesn;t put a generic in there that has not been selected. One selection criterion might be an op amp that withstands somewhat higher supply voltages than spec.

It would be helpful for us to know what is wrong with it, what are you trying to fix?
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

You have to provide much more information, or at least a photo of the circuit. If this is power supply controller, then other Markbass amps (I'm not sure about Big Bang) use:
IR21531DPBF - INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER - MOSFET DRIVER, HALF BRIDGE, 600V | Farnell UK
but if the IC fails, several other components fail as well. You have to be very careful.

No power, computer tech has found voltage readings up to the point that he believes 1c5 is bad? tried to attach pictures twice after upload ends, don't see how to attach. Thanks for your help.
