  • Mackie SRM 450 v1 woofer replacement

I'm looking round for options on replacing a blown woofer P/N 0016643 (cast frame) in a Mackie SRM 450 V1. The OEM units are very expensive for what they are - around £160 in the UK. A re-cone works out at about £70 plus shipping either way, so getting on for nearly £100 insured in total.

I measure the original speaker BCD as 300mm. Eminence sells a Delta Pro 12-450A which they say replaces the Mk1 speaker, but they give the BCD as 293.9 - which is smaller than the standard Delta Pro 12A and way too small for a V1 cabinet. Confusing.

Has anyone had success in replacing the original speaker with an aftermarket unit?

I do not know if this will help but I have purchased a number of these speakers for the Mackie SRM 450.

It's fairly cheap in the US, but we have 20% tax plus a collection fee to add on top of the total cost (including shipping). It may be a better bet than the original Chinese unit, though.

            What is BCD?

            As of perceived quality:

            1) I'd trust more the Eminence word on any claim than an anonymous EBay seller any day of the week.
And they are specifically saying it will work in that cabinet.
I would write Eminence just in case and ask them if the suggested replacement just pops in or if it needs any reworking at all, even something as light as different bolt position or needing a an extra foam gasket or whatever.
There must some reason for that particular model being slightly different to then standard one .
            2) the cheaper replacement looks Eminence made anyway (unless it's a Chinese clone) but having a stamped frame, to me looks like, say, a $60/70 speaker, while the cast frame Delta looks like $120.
It's not just the frame strength, but more rigid ones allow for tighter tolerances so tighter gap.
            3) maybe you can buy (or order) one at some UK official distributor, and let them mess with Customs and such annoyances ; doubly so because you'll get a UK valid warranty.

That said, the option is yours (and the customr's ).

BCD = Bolt Circle Diameter. I've always know this as PCD as an engineering term - Pitch Circle Diameter, or the circle diameter on which the bolts are spaced.

I'd prefer to go with the Eminence Delta over anything else if it will fit and will check with them directly. I have the spec sheets from them, but their dimensions don't match what I need. There have been a number of speakers fitted to these over the years and it could be the sizing changed over the life of the speaker. I can't see the reason for the sizing - the original speaker is listed as 12.5" diameter.

Geez, it was Binary Coded Decimal to me.
