  • Chauvet thermal switch

    Geyser RGB fogger

Need a thermal cut off switch (not sure what it's called) but it looks like the ones they add to magnetron cases in microwaves.

It's open. If I jump it the unit works. Chauvet only sells the entire heater unit.

    Any ideas?

Are there any markings on the switch?

What voltage/ current is it passing?

    Post a pic.

      Does it look like this?

      3L11-110 White-Rodgers | Mouser

Those are called thermostats, and enter that term in the search at Mouser or other place.

I found those last week. Thanks. Came in today from Mouser. Put it in and success. The one I needed was 115c open, but I found 120c. Close enough.

Just to be safe you may want to check the burn temp of the juice. The new stuff is probably fairly non-toxic, but it would be worth checking if there is any temp limit that needs to be adhered to.
I'm sure they would leave more than 5 deg. leeway, but thought it worth mentioning in case someone else wants to try it and has a bigger variance in temp.

What's funny is this one seemed to be lower than most. Others I looked up are around 145c. This one is one of the geyser RGB units used more for special effects. The owner of the club tries to use this to fill a very large venue with fog and it keeps tripping the temp switch. I told him to buy 2-3 hd foggers for his purpose or perhaps go the dry ice route.

g-one is right. Ususally you don't trip the the breaker while fogging, because you dissipate heat then. Really doublecheck the heater temperature. Does it have a thermocouple? probably polarity-reversed?

replace it with bus bar wire, it should smoke REAL GOOD then!

I'm a little late to the party but I found this page here direct from Chauvet. It is a bit higher than 115 C! Chauvet - CHAUVET is a manufacturer of LED lighting, DJ lighting, Stage Lighting, Concert Lighting, Outdoor lighting, Club lights, leading the market in terms of design, flexibility, and options.

Quite hot 220C = 428F. The MSDS for Chauvet High Performance Haze Fluid lists its ingredients as propylene glycol and triethylene glycol, with a flashpoint of 375F, while other Chauvet fluids list their ingredients as propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol and glycerol with a flashpoint of only 270F. The triethylene glycol is a component of brake fluid and probably bets avoided in smoke machines IMO.

I get the impression that the whole KSD301 series is MAX 220 deg.C, that Chauvet listing may be misleading.

A little off topic but funny nonetheless. I was in a fairly popular band in the late 70s right out of HS touring colleges. We couldn't afford a high end dry ice system so we used oil smoke generators. I always hated them because I thought it smelled like the disinfectant used to clean gas station restrooms. Anyway we had smoke and rudimentary lasers, lights, and a big ass strobe. We would stand behind big strips of black canvas and step out between the slow strobe to look like we appeared on stage, then run towards the front of the stage in the fog, lights, and lasers. BUT.. This one college theater stage had a polished wooden floor. If you didn't warm the damn smoke generators up for an hour they would spit oil everywhere. And of course the roadies got stoned and forgot to warm them up and didn't tell anyone. When we took off running towards the front of the stage that night and when we tried to stop, we just kept on sliding and everyone but the drummer flew of the front edge of the stage. You could hear us unplugging one by one. Buzz, buzz, buzz. It hurt a lot and busted up some now vintage guitars. Lol. I hate oil smoke generators.
