  • Boss RC-2 problem

    Hello
my Boss RC-2 only functions if the charger is plugged in half way, means I have to find the right position. If itīs plugged in fully (= normal position), it doesnīt work. With battery it doesnīt work at all, dead. Someone welded that little white wire (see photo), connecting mass with a point of the plug. This wire once disconnected, nothing doesnīt work anymore.
I tried with another adapter, same result.
    Thanks for help.

Does anybody have a scheme of the RC-2?

Good news is that it works sometimes. I don't think you'll need a schematic for this.
Do you understand how the 2.1mm barrel jack works as far as switching the battery + terminal?
In case you don't: The "sleeve" of the dc jack is +, and, when inserted, it removes the battery + terminal from the circuit.
This is a mechanical thing. Most likely, the dc jack has been damaged, the mechanical connection is broken, and this is why the battery connection appears dead.

I would use an ohm meter while the circuit is off and check all the connections from the jack to the circuit board... i.e. look for any signs that there are cracks in the circuit board. Check solder points that should be connects and be SURE they are connected. If they aren't, you might have a crack in the circuit board. Use jumper wire, like the white one shown, to fix any cracks.

Next, inspect that jack and decide if you need a replacement. Sounds like you do. Either call Roland or check smallbearelec.com for the correct replacement jack. Mouser stocks it too, but I don't have the number in front of me. 2.1mm dc jack pc mount. Its common.

Also check that the battery negative wire is going to the input jack ring connection.

I'll bet its either a broken jack, a cracked board, or a combination of those.
