I'm not experienced enough just yet to see what I can substitute as a back up. I wouldn't have thought I could use a 10k or 50k in place of a 22k?

      Depends on the circuit.

Same value is of course best, and * a few* circuits are very fussy about that , but MANY can easily accept twice or half value without a hiccup.

        For example here:

22/25k Log is suggested, 50k Log will work just as well, 10k too but *may* be slightly harder to drive by the preamp cfeeding it.
Now if the preamp output is , say, an Op Amp output, no big deal.
We don't know *where* your pot is, but I guess it's a power amp volume pot, not too diferent from the circuit above.

Now in a few cases, such as passive tone controls and/or volume controls following them, it becomes more critical because pot value is part of the EQ frequencies design.

Here, the 250k treble pot is critical, because together with the 250pF cap it sets the treble control crossover frequency, in this case 2500Hz.
(I used this excellent online RC calculator RC High-pass Filter Design Tool , in this case it's an HPF: high pass filter)
You see that in this case, if you use twice the pot value, crossover frequency will lower by one octave, the control will pass more Mids.
If you use half, it will lose some mids, some "guitar" treble and control will be more "hi fi/voice/acoustic guitar" type.
Remember the cap changes in dumbassbob's much abused amp.

But I doubt a modern design such as your powered box uses passive tone controls and volume control is either at the input jack or "inside" and buffered, so it's much more flexible.

If in doubt, I'd pick the higher value one (in this case 50k) as an alternative.

Of course, having the schematic visible (hint hint ) makes the decision easier.

I thought for future reference should point out this got resolved in the schematics thread by NickB
who suggested an Alps one at R/S components.

At £0.62 each , cheaper than the knob !

And another from a powered monitor that has 6 pins? I've never seen a 6 pin pot before,
              I don't get it.
You ask for a 6 pin stereo pot and you show a 3 pin mono one
