  • gibson 25rvt rectifier

i am trying to get my 25rvt going again and i checked the voltages . the voltages are high immediately out of the 5Y3 before the first dropping resistor and so higher all over. the schematic sez 335V before the resistor, i read 450V. time to swap out the 5Y3 ?

    thanks,

    scott

Do you have the rest of the tubes in the amp?
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      ga 25rvt voltages

      yes. the 25rvt sports :

      4 - 6EU7
      1 - 12AU7
      2 - 6V6GT

voltages higher all along the way. caps are fairly new. dropping resistors seem fine. PT ?

Does this amp pass any signal? I had an altec preamp (didn't pass signal)where all voltages were higher than normal, turned out to be filament voltage was missing on one of the tubes. Once the tube lit up all the voltages came back down to normal.

              signal passes

yes. the signal passes but it generates a hum, buzz, loud tone that starts to squeal and i have to turn it off before anything really bad happens.
