Hi all, hope you are not going to be upset with me posting this question here - but I don't know where else to turn. Plus, everyone here has been so helpful in the past.

OK, here's the deal - I have 2 really nice Sennheiser HD490 headphones that the foam earcushions have disintegrated...

They are old & parts are no longer available. Have spent hours searching the web with no luck...

If I was clever (not so much) I would be including a link to a picture or something... but to clarify, these are 'open back' types, the long gone foam in question is a thin layer between the drivers & the fabric outer (part that touches the ears). I've been scratching my head about what kind of foam to use - obviously not just any foam will do...

    Any ideas?

    Cheers, Lorne & Joanie

Hi Dude, no it's not any of these... seen all of them. The HD490 are more oval, pear (or breast) shaped... the ads LIE...

I've given up on finding replacements, just trying to find the right kind of foam to put in there- don't want to second guess the Sennheiser guys LOL

Good to hear from you again Dude, & before it's too late - Happy New Year!

Steal the foam from a set of cheap phones?

Good idea Enzo - I have emailed Sennheiser & they say pads are made of 'unobtanium' LOL

Thanks tedmich, that link does seem to be the same shape (oval, pear, breast, teardrop) but alas the HD590 would seem to be closed back style, with thick ear cushions. Not like my HD490.

              I'll figure something out...

Young perky breasts, or large pendulous ones?

I've got every sympathy with the OP; I'm incredibly reliant on my old Sennheiser HD480II.
They work so well that I'd try my best to keep them going.
The thought of having to get used to new ones - EUGHH.
Everything these days I've tried seems to have an over hyped response, and lack the smooth mids of these.

                      Good news all !!
The 'aha' moment came to me (finally) while doing some touch-up painting with one of those cheap FOAM brushes... they come in sizes up to about 4 inches...
So, a quick trip to the dollar store got me a pack of them in assorted sizes, 10 minutes with kitchen scissors, stuff the foam into the fabric outer & bingo ! Back in business, total cost $1.25

@pdf64 - I know, the thought of replacing 2 pairs was killing me

Thanks to all who helped out, hope this will be useful to others.

BTW Dude, we recently watched the movie your avatar comes from. All this time I thought that was a picture of you...
