Does anyone work on keyboard electronics?

If so, I have a Roland Fantom FA76 keyboard that needs a main volume control slider. I've been in touch with Roland and they said that the part is obsolete. The rest of the keyboard works. I just need that one part to complete the repair. Does anyone know where to find this part or where they can have a generic manufactured?

    Can you post a picture?

Sliders come in lengths. 20mm, 30mm, 60mm, 100mm, whatever-mm. And of course various resistance. Several brands cover most, so the footprint makes a difference. SOme have the legs on the ends, some part way down the sides. We can probably match it up.

Do you know the Roland part number for it? We might have one in the drawer. But without knowing the dimensions, the resistance, the part number, it is hard to tell.

I'll see if I still have one. But that looks like the same 10k slider they used in a zillion things.

10kB means linear, and the X2 means stereo

Yes, it does look like a common slider, but this particular one is no where to be found. I contacted mouser and they couldn't find one similar. One slider that we have in stock, that has the same 4 pins on each side, looks like it may work, but it's longer and it goes in a mackie mixer. We may have to make modifications to the keyboard.

Have you looked at eBay? There are two sellers with replacements for about $15. See if one of those will work, they both note that the slider arm is longer and needs to be cut off for some applications like yours, but that has to be easier than trying to modify the board in the keyboard.

I did look on ebay. Maybe I typed in the wrong description on the search bar? So I went back to ebay and typed in "roland fantom slide pot" and a few possibilities showed up. The dimensions on one I found came very close. I guess I can give that one a shot. The slide pot I'm looking for has staggered legs, but I can make this work. Thanks for the help! I'll let you know what happens.

I didn't notice the offset legs on the original pot and didn't really look that carefully at the new ones, sorry. You might want to contact the seller and see if they know if it will replace the one that you have before you buy it.

And give Enzo a few days to get back to his shop to see if he has any NOS ones in his inventory.

Edit: I just looked at the one listing and while the photos are not as clear as yours, the legs are to the outside edge on one side and inset by maybe 1/8" on the other side, just like yours seems to be.

I suspect any I have left are the mono ones, like on older Rolands, but there is always hope.

Mouser has no idea in the world what part Roland may have specified, even if they have thousands in stock.

A better search might be 10kx2 slider 30mm (for Roland keyboard.)

I failed to mention, the dimension of length on a slider is the travel of the shaft,, not the overall length, so I guessed at 30mm. It would be multiples of 5mm anyway, I have never seen a 38mm slider for example. Asking for a particular model means you will only find it if someone describes it that way, meanwhile Roland used that exact part on many models.

Cobbling some other part in there is really a LAST resort. Someone else uses a very similar part if no one has the old Rolands.

                      Have you tried contacting Roland?

Syntaur has the part listed as "New" which means that they can get them.
                      Usually direct from Roland.

I've been in contact with them. They said that part was no longer available. Both Roland and Syntaur.

Update: We finally got the 10k slider for the volume control in. It seems like it's working, however, there is a problem with signal getting to the mono output jacks and one side of the headphone output jack. The 2 balanced jacks are working. Does anyone have a service manual for this keyboard?
