Taxing speakers by the kilo is quite funny, and as you said, not completely ridiculous. I have been known to select thrift-shop speakers largely based on weight.
Enzo, I too have a Wahl Iso-Tip tucked away in a drawer somewhere. Now that Parts-Express is carrying parts, I may reactivate it. It hasn't been used since the mid-90s, so I imagine it needs a battery. I know it needs a tip. I have been thinking this would make a good iron for quick fixes in the field. I often need more heat than I can get from a 30W pencil iron, but my WES 51 is a bit bulky to carry around. I see Parts-Express is carrying Iso-Tip now. That's convenient.
