    After removing the burnt diode, try the unit with a 9V battery.

    You need to figure out the polarity of the power input jack.

    Center pin positive or negative.

      Thanks guys. I bought the brownie a number of years ago. I love the sounds
      but didn't like all the noise/hum it produced. I got it out to compare it to a new pedal,
      the tone city golden plexi . Before, I powered the brownie and a number of other pedals
      with my 9v one spot system. All worked fine. Now, looking on the back of the brownie,
      it calls for 9.6v 200ma dc adapter ? The next like says dc 9 volts tip = negative ! I'm
      confused ??
      Later today, I will be taking out the burned part out and hopefully finding some info on it,
