    Hey folks,
I am repairing an old Sylvania (Funai) dvd/vcr combo for a customer whose father has alzheimer's & does not have the ability to learn anything new. I don't want to pay $16 for a service manual just to find a part number that probably doesn't relate to the actual part needed. It needs the take-up motion sensing photo transistor (Q50s) & I need to figure out what it is.
Long story short, does anyone know a good forum where techs discuss such things?
I may just suggest these folks just purchase a working one on Amazon for like $100...issue is you really don't know what you're getting there...Thanx, glen

Thanx guys. But, I really need the service manual which as you've seen is available for free.
The part might have some generic markings on it that would help but since I'm working for someone else i really can't take the time to do a complete tear down to get to the bloody part. I also have to be cognizant of time as these younger dudes don't have the same empathy for older cats with health issues like this owner has (;- (
Some old vcr tech out there I'm sure knows exactly what this part is and where to find it.
        Thanx all.

There are many VCR's that use those photo transistors. If you know anybody that has a junked VCR of the same era, you could rob one. I've got a junk pile of old VCR's waiting to be tossed, but it's buried at the moment.

Edit: If you can upload a pic of the part, maybe I or someone else can help. I used to do a lot of VCR repair back in the days when people fixed them.
