inserting/wiring a volume control

im cleaning up a small audio system in a resturaunt.

rackmount mixer into a proel prl500 power amplifier.

the system wired mono with each of the amps channels used to cover different zones.

i need to wire a volume control on one channel as the rear controls on the amp are awkward to access.

some help regarding potentiometer value, taper type and wiring in a balanced line input would be appreciated.

That balanced line input gets converted into unbalanced and then feeds a stereo potentiometer or a couple mono ones (right and left):

Shortest safest solution is to unsolder and pull original pots in the back , drill 2 holes on front panel and mount them there, get 2 separate simple ones if original is dual/stereo so you can adjust them separately.

Run 2 separately shielded wires for each potentiometer, each 2 conductor, so one sends audio from PCB to pot Hot terminal, the other returns wiper to proper PCB pad, both wrapped in the same shield.
Or use "stereo" shielded wire for each pot, same connection.
Shield is grounded at PCB end, and is soldered to front panel pot "ground" terminal but nothing else.

If you already had 2 separate pots, use them; if a dual one, get 2 separate one, same ohms and taper.

I expect them to be between 5k and 50k, Audio taper.
