  • Any help greatly appreciated with Sony TA-212 Old Amp

    Hi all,

I found an old sony ta-212 amp in my family's loft at the weekend and so connected it up to some speakers - it played okay at first but after 30 mins the power and sound cut out. I've checked both the mains plug fuse and internal fuse and neither have blown so i think it must be that the transformers gone? Any thoughts?

I've tried to look for a replacement transformer but havent had any luck with finding an exact copy (T 981_TK). It's worth mentioning that i'm by no means a specialist so if theres a newer version of this transformer that i could get please do let me know. Any help much appreciated!

    Many thanks

You should try measuring the ACV on the primary first.
Experience is something you get, just after you really needed it.

Thank you for your help - unfortunately I found that there wasnt any continuity on the input or output side of the transformer...

That’s a very odd coincidence. Float them and measure again.
