Anyone know of a source for NE D24 neon lamps used in Conn ST-11 Strobotuner?

My Conn ST-11 Strobotuner burned out the last of its three neon strobe lamps and is sadly dark.

I tried putting NE 2H lamps in, but they fried.

Anyone know of a source for NE D24 neon lamps (as listed in the Conn repair manual)?

I know I still have some, but they are buried in my storage unit.

I would contact Peterson, who bought out all the old Conn strobetuner stuff. I think they have passed it along since, but they would refer you to that person.

Do you have a link to the repair manual? I cannot find that designation for a NE anywhere.

Thanks the one I was looking at was missing the parts list. Seems to be a really obscure neon.

I couldn't find anything on that neon either. I did find that some are converting the ST-11 from neon to LED, but not much other than this.

Looks like those Neons get hit with 180vDc. Have to pull mine out and look at it.

I wonder if D24 is a misprint in the Parts List. On the schematic it looks like D2A. There is a D2A called "High Brightness" in this Glow-Lite catalog:

The D2A is listed as 1/3 Watt with a 22K resistor, compared to an NE2 - 1/17 Watt with 150K

I think you're right, dmeek. If you look at the schematic in my attachment above (and ignore the parts list), it does look like it says D2A.

Now that we have specs, maybe you can find something. I think you could make the NE 2H work if you have more of them. You'd just have to install a larger load resistor (see chart post #8). They may or may not be bright enough.

Interesting that the last entry suggests replacing the neons with super brite LED's. Hmmm, I've done that in Fender vibrato circuits, make my own "bug" with an orange, yellow or red LED and it works a charm. Haven't had one burn out yet, also no harm to the driving circuitry. Certainly worth an experiment even if you start with just one LED to see whether it works for you watchman.

I would modify it like this. The LED resistors could be anywhere from 220 ohms to 10 K depending on the LED specs and the brightness needed.
