  • TS472 Low Noise Mic Preamp

I bought this great, low noise Mic Preamp from Ali Express, but when I connected it, there was no sound.
I'm not sure how to adjust it. Do I have to choose and solder-bridge the gain spots? What about the Standby Mode? I don't need the Standby Mode. Is it off or has it to be activated?
Please be so kind to advice me on how to go about. Thanking you in advance, Jo from Townsville QLD

How about a link to the kit information and also a schematic?

      It's likely that the board functions like the chip manufacturer's standard demo board. The standby function operates like this; "A short-circuit between VCC and Standby puts the TS472 in operating mode. A short-circuit between GND and Standby puts the TS472 in standby mode" There are gain setting resistor choices and you need to determine if these are fitted to the board and whether any are connccted. You should be able to locate these from the application notes for the board;

Standby Mode: Jumper VCC+ & the middle pad to put the unit in operate mode.
Gain Select: the gain must be set with another jumper (the corresponding resistors are installed on the board).
Finally, are you using a condenser microphone?
If so, the 'Bias' pads need to be jumpered.

Rant: I cannot understand why there was not any documentation included.
Then again, at 3 bucks for the board.............

Thank you Mick Bailey for you good advice. With a magnifying glass I could see that there's already a connection between VCC and Standby. So, learnt that the reason it wasn't working was that I failed to select (and solder the gain. That's, because I never made it to a professional electronic technician and now at 78 things getting more complicated.
use it for my whistling addiction (Demo unit), which my ancestors bestowed onto me and I use/ abuse to make friends. You too, might like this one. I checked the link https://app.box.com/s/u68q3fn26jtwb9673xbfc751mef4wq6e is valid!

jjj why have you added a spam link to your signature line? Has your account been hacked?

That definitely looked like a spam link in the OP's sig, so I removed it. I too am wondering if the account is hacked.

Guy has been here 13 years, that seems like a very long time to be a sleeper spammer.

There is a small detail in the spec that you should be aware of. The maximum output load capacitance is just 100pF. If the board is used to drive a cable then you need to pay attention to the cable length to avoid exceeding the limit. For a typical shielded cable a capacitance is 50pF per m meaning just two metres is the maximum. The usual trick to solve this is to add a small resistance in series with the outputs, say 1K.
Experience is something you get, just after you really needed it.

Johannes, your replies sound like your typical self , but your signature line had some kind of 'viagra' spam link. It was showing on every post you ever made here. (the link has since been removed by administrator)
Did you put it there or has some unauthorized person got access to your account?

So, there must be some advertising worm/virus in my PC.- No wonder, the last days I had lots of BSOD's. My ESET failed to detect it. - How to get rid of it?

I think it's more likely your MEF account was hacked. I would change your password here to be safe. If your PC is also infected, I like to use Malwarebytes to scan. It's not antivirus software and won't prevent you from GETTING malware, but it's very good at removing it if you are infected. There is also a free version, so the price is right. Here's a link:
