  • G-Major encoders

    Hello,

    I need to replace two encoders from my G-Major ( 1 ).

But I can't find the same part...

It's a ALPS encoder, I think 24 dents. The other one is the same but with push function.

The body is 12 x 11'5mm more or less.

    Anybody can help me?

    Not an uncommon item.
The kicker will be the shaft length.
    here is a whole series:https://www.mouser.com/Electromechan...yyaxjxZ1yyryel
Here is the one with a 'Pushbutton: EC12E2424407 - Alps Alpine - Rotary Encoder, Mechanical, Incremental (newark.com)

I'm wondering if you were able to get your G Major running. I just got one and of course the encoders are ridiculously messed up. I don't see much in the way of drop in replacement for the outer ring encoder, although there are some dual encoders that might be attached there somehow. I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron and glue gun.

        Thanks,

        DL

Thanks. In my case, the outer encoder is the worst. I don't see a drop in replacement for it. I've just pulled the unit apart and can tell that the inner encoder was already replaced once. They didn't solder in the support tabs and there are flux spots on the PCB on the pins. I think what I am going to do, since there is fairly much room, is to install 2 regular encoders side by side on to a piece of vero/proto board. I'll wire this to the switch PCB with wires coming up from the existing holes. Then just add some short wires from the new encoders over to those. Pain in the $$$ but there's not really much in the way of decent 1U rack FX these days. I'm using it in the FX loop of a tube amp and I already have a modeler so this unit, aside from the encoder problem, is more or less ideal. Yes it will mean two side by side knobs instead of concentric, not a huge deal.

I decided to take a different approach, we'll see how it works.
