  • Neutrik Quick Fix nut UK source? (Soundcraft Spirit desk)

    Dear all,
I've just finished repairing a Soundcraft Spirit Folio F1 14/2 mixing desk. I'm really pleased with it - it's so quiet compared to some other more up to date budget mixers I could mention - and with the swept mid eq, inserts, 3 aux sends, channel mutes and PFL/AFL it actually has all I need. Yes, in an ideal world it would have 8 mic pres rather than 6, but on the other hand, the size fits absolutely perfectly hanging conveniently on the rack next to the drum kit. Very pleasing.
Anyway, to finish off the project I need just two (!) of the Neutrik plastic Quick Fix nuts that Soundcraft were using at the time. They are surprisingly hard to find in the UK! The only place I can find them is at Mouser, and last time it took me 9 months to build up an order to get to the free shipping threshold to the UK (my needs are pretty modest). CPC, RS, Canford, Lynx, Rapid, Amazon, eBay...: no-one seems to have them... I've dropped a couple of enquiries but no joy yet.
I've pasted a snip from the Neutrik plugs and jacks pdf.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks!

    This I do not see.

    NSJ is the nut.

Thanks, Jazz P. I can see the picture on my PC but not on my phone. It’s from the exact same page that you’ve posted though - thank you.

Often, the nuts separately are harder to get than complete jacks with nuts included. And sometimes it's not a big difference in price.
Similar to fuseholders, it's easier to buy the whole thing even if you just need the cap.

You’re right, g1, and if I could find a source for the combined unit and fixings I would be happy with that. But the only place I’ve seen them advertised are on the US site as above and they say “Fixing nut and washers must be ordered separately”!

Well that's no good. If memory serves there were even a couple variants within the soundcraft line. Like they changed between the early and later generations and would not fit each other. So make sure when you find them there are good pictures that match what you need.

The image in post #2 shows threaded nuts. Are you talking about the litle rings that turn about 45 degrees and lock in place?

There are 2 types shown in there, threaded and 'quick fix'. NSJ are the quick fix (non-threaded).

Have you tried soundcraft directly? https://www.soundcraft.com/support/parts

Yes, Enzo, those are the ones - NSJ-NUT-B as g1 notes.

Query submitted to Soundcraft. Will let you know what happens!

I bet there are loads of them knocking around in people's studio cupboards, garages, lofts etc, on boards that have lost their power supplies, or with noisy caps, or already partly parted out....!

Well, I will believe you, but the NSJ nut pictured is hex sided, and the ones I know are smooth round little collars.

Yep, hex sided but only needing approx 45 degree turn to remove/install.

Wasn’t prepared for this, and on initial disassembly nearly ripped the first one off with a spanner as I expected to have to unscrew multiple turns!

Ah, looks like they updated the shape. All the old Spirit boards I serviced had that nut as a round smooth sided thing, harder to grip.
